St. Mark’s Publications

The Archives Committee of St. Mark’s Church in Niagara on the Lake was formed over fifteen years ago when a number of significant historic documents relating to the history of the parish were discovered hidden away in cupboards.  These documents were in danger of being lost in spite of earlier efforts to gather them together in some sort of orderly fashion.

 

Since that time, the committee, formed of six people has continued to meet every Tuesday.  They have sorted through a multiplicity of papers.  As members of the parish discover that artifacts are being organized and cared for, they have brought numerous letters and artifacts for the collection.

 

The committee has taken on the responsibility not only of preserving the documents and artifacts of parish history.  They have attempted to make known both the history and the message of the church.  With guided tours through the historic cemetery and presentations concerning historical events to small groups they have kept the parishioners informed of the impressive history of the church.  Through articles in the Niagara Advance, they have also communicated some sense of local history to  the community in general.

 

The following books have been published by the committee:

St. Mark’s: Person’s of Hopeful Piety Is a history of the parish from 1790 to 2000 . Paperback edition fully illustrated consisting of 192 pages. $20

 

Searching for Dorothy is the story of several early parishioners important in the early history of the community. Paperback edition fully illustrated consisting of 56 pages. Currently out of print.

 

St.Mark’s Storied Past includes a series of 150 short historic tales about the people of St. Mark’s, written originally for the Niagara Advance. Paperback edition fully illustrated consisting of 174 pages. $20

 

St.Mark’s Chancel Readings is a series of dialogues, all of which have been used either in Church services or in other parish gatherings.  The first group of readings present the Gospel message in dramatic dialogue form. The second group of readings provide several events in the history of the parish that have will significant interest for other churches in the Diocese of Niagara..Other parishes might well be interested in using these stories that present several of the parables and other stories.    Paperback edition fully illustrated consisting of 149 pages. $20

 

Robert Addison, Scholar,Missionary,Minister is the story of the founder of St.Mark parish and minster to the early settlers in Southern Ontario.   Hardbound edition fully illustrated consisting of 140 pages available soon.
